How to Help?
Be a Board or Committee member!
The Board of Directors for the Community Coalition meets on a regular basis to develop policy and address the needs of the agency for providing services. If you would like to be a part of this dynamic group, contact the Executive Director or Board President.
Current skills sets needed on the board or in committees include expertise in public relations/marketing, fundraising/development, and project development.

Work directly with the homeless!
The Open Door has many opportunities for people to work in positions that directly benefit people who are homeless. You will be trained to help with intake and assessment of clients, registration and referrals, food stamp applications, assistance with clothing, showers, and laundry. Volunteers in these positions invariably find they gain immeasurable personal satisfaction from the help they are able to provide.

Volunteer for specific projects!
Every year our organization has events and benefits which require the assistance of volunteers in order to be successful. These are usually short term, one time only type projects. An example is Stand Down, an event held once a year at the Manatee County Fairgrounds for the homeless in our community. More than four hundred homeless individuals and families are served at this half day event, scheduled for November 8th, 2008.
